A wonderful sunflower for sunny areas!
This plant has long been used as food by humans, birds, and pollinators alike! It grows from an incredibly long taproot, which is edible and traditionally used to treat colds. The entire plant is edible as well as the roots. Its sunflower-like seeds are highly sought after by birds. This very long-lived plant may take about 5 years to flower, during which time its leaves slowly form a large, attractive clump. Largely due to habitat destruction, Deltoid Balsamroot is vulnerable in WA (G5/S3). Bring it back by putting it in your yard!
